mousseman,

You can run hping2 -0 -H 47 -d 10 194.88.212.200. You should receive ICMP Packets from 194.88.212.200 "proto unreach".

However, it is most likely that you will get the same host unreach message as i got, from one of your Cablecom devices. Tell that to support, and the issue should get resolved rather quickly

Update: PPTP VPNs don't work into any direction anymore. According to a non-Citrix-User (i.e. client-2-site VPN user), it stopped working about three monthes ago.

First, he blamed it onto his UMTS connectivity in Germany (the cell providers have some really funky routing), but then I went down to a 'known good' ADSL connection, and it still didn't work.

However, if I use the WAN subnet with routable IPs, attached to a switch, where the WAN port of the PIX and the Cisco 2600 is attached, it works. Obviously because it doesn't pass through the 2600.

The NAT question is moot since the VPN endpoint is the PIX WAN interface, and it's IP is routable (some 77.200.*).

Hi,

Hmm, it looks like you are experiencing a different problem than i did.

PPTP always needs in- and outbound GRE packets to work. No matter if they're incoming or outgoing connections. In my case, ALL outgoing GRE packets were blocked (no matter if they originated from a client or a server).

Are your clients that try using PPTP behind NAT? If so, the problem is most probably your NAT device.

Hi Ronald,

There are no special instructions necessary for the newer machines.

You can check the Systems Infocenter for detailed instructions. But in general, the procedure is very easy.

1.) Connect a crossover cable from the first LAN-Port (on 4x 1Gbit Card, not the HMC Ports) to your PC
2.) Start Operations Console, configure the initial IP settings the Ops Console connection should have (this must be another ip than your IBM i OS will have)
3.) Start the connection
4.) IPL the System
5.) When prompted for U:PW enter 11111111 / 11111111

We have NexComm NBG400 CPE, plus a Cisco 2600. Now I heavily suspect the NexComm isn't the culprit, so this leaves the Cisco 2600. Same symptoms down here:

- inbound GRE seems to work, as PPTP VPNs work
- PPTP conection to a customer VPN doesn't work
- Cisco IPsec workds dandy

If I can petition CC to give me access to the 2600, I'd know withhin minutes.

Hi,

We have an Alcatel CPE, access technology is ADSL2+.

Do you have a Cisco CPE or are using some other access technology?

If other CPEs didn't have the same behaviour, it would be a pretty clear cut case of human error (though i'd wonder how you make such a mistake). But if other CPE also blocks GRE, then there must be some reason behind it.

Hmmmm....so I'm not the only one who noticed this? How surprising.

I had the same splendid idea one day to use PPTP as we have lots of people with Windows XP and setting up PPTP is the most painless way to connect to our network, seen from the client side.

The inbound site is on a cablecom business network, with an IP rather close to yours, and our firewall is from Cisco. And I know for sure that a Cisco PIX does not block GRE by itself (and it's left to the really enterprising readers to devise an ACL to do so).

Does your connection use Cisco CPE, or some other brand?

I have been impressed with OCS as well. The full install is a bit complicated but once up it makes remote offices or home offices easy.
You are right, you will need 3 servers and virtualization isnt supported yet.

Hi Jorge,
I know you can install it on a domain controller, we did.

This "issue" is not a Windows XP issue, but a 32-bit system issue. As said above, 32-bit means a maximum of 2^32 bytes of addresses. And these addresses does not mean it should be only your RAM addresses, but your hole computer hardware addresses.

So, again, if you have 4GB of RAM, it won't use all of it, because the system requires some other addresses (like those 512MB from your video memory), and then winXP 32-bit just won't be able to access your hole RAM memory addresses.

In 64-bit systems, 2^64 = 128GB. So you can use your, let's say, 8GB of RAM plus a dual 512MB nvidia cards and there will still be plenty of addresses for the operating system use.

This MLK is a load of s*#t. It's Saturday afternoon, I'm in a clients office replacing a faulty HDD, and I have no way of getting my hands on the install media before Monday morning (they're out in the country where sheep move twice as fast as the local broadband service - downloading is not an option). I am sooo very fecking annoyed at the moment. The way I see it, I have been left with two options. Either I can break the law and install my personal copy of Office 2007 on the clients machine, or I can install a copy of OpenOffice I keep with me. If I use OpenOffice, I stay legal, and the client will be able to work come Monday morning. Can someone please tell me why Microsoft makes life so difficult for the people out there selling / supporting their products. When exactly when did they swollow the pill marked "stupid"?!?!

Hello another friends of iSeries,

I am from Germany and I started installing WebQuery last monday. Unfortunately I became signon-problems and I think, that my probs are about the same, which some of you here described.

When I activate the wfconsole it works but the i5-login doesn't act and show me a message "Invalid user ID or password. Please try again".

I tried some of your suggestions except Tomasz' CALL QLWIEX03, but nothing will improved.

I am not sure to type this command. Could you help me to work ultimately with WebQuery.

Thanks a lot.

Best regards
