However, it’s not frequented all that much.

As for your ServeRAID question: You can boot the Support CD to have access to the ServeRAID manager. If you use ESX (not ESXi), maybe you can use the commandline utilities in the management partition.

Anybody know where to get good IBM support / forums?? Seems Lukas has the best thing out there! I can’t find a darned thing on the IBM website… Even precious google doesn’t know everything!

What I really need to find out now is how to get the ServeRAID manager working on an ESXi4 box… It is an x3850 / SR 8i

I thought I would share my configuration since some are asking about Srvr2008 etc. I am running ESXi on 2 mirrored SAS drives. I am then running Server2008 Standard and Win2003r2 Exchange 2007 on a Raid 5 set in guest VM’s. I have one Guest VM running the SMTP gateway. This is with 2-2.0 procs and 12gb or ram.

Ideally, both CPUs should be identical.

You can try switching the places of both CPUs, making the one with less functionality the primary one. This might solve your problem.

We ordered this Server. They are two CPUS. They have same performance 2.0 Ghz quad core, same amount of cache but in BIOS only diference is ID first one is 676 and second 67A.
When we install windows server 2003 by IMB disk. At the step: remove media disk and insert Windows disk, We clicked “next”. Then the system reboot, and have green screen “MULTIPROCESSOR_DOES_NOT_SUPPORTED”.
Please help me

Hey guys

Please be careful with the 500, 750 and 1TB Seagate disks. After a little research, found out that Seagate released a firmware for the 7200.11 series for correcting a bug related to not seeing the HDDs after a reboot. Seems to be that this firmware ONLY works for the 1GB disks and make the other two absolutely unusable after the upgrading. If you have them installed, I would recommend to wait for an official release (Although these are the official releases). I wouldn’t know if the IBM’s firmwares do the same, but anyway, take it in count.

Hey just a suggestion about that HDD problems. I think update-ing firmware is a good idea if you haven’t done it yet. Here is the idea IBM UpdateXpress CD 4.06a – Servers.
“The UpdateXpress CD can help reduce your cost of computing by providing an effective and simple way to update server firmware and firmware of supported options contained within the server on most of your xSeries products. If you have purchased an IBM xSeries server, UpdateXpress is available for download at no additional charge. For your convenience, we have also made the UpdateXpress program available in a prepackaged CD. See below to download UpdateXpress or for details on ordering the CD. ”
Maybe it would help. I also found something about some firmware update 1.06b that said it corrected something about 1,5 TB Hitachi HDD, but can’t find it any more. Anyway don’t like betas, so I belive that the last non beta firmware update is in UpdateXpress and may help you.

P.S. You need 44r9863.iso 446234624 UpdateXpress CD 1
Cause CD 2 is for Blade systems.

Hey all

I have a good one. x3650 support page shows an update for a list of hard drives: There is the list of “supported” hard drives and it says that there’s the possibility for a firmware upgrade.

Here’s the link:

Brandon, as you said, there is no Western Digital disks on the supported disks list.

I’m still trying to find those disks separately with no good news. Anyone that can copy the model that the motherboard detects?

I think that the ones I’m looking for are Hitachi DESKSTAR 7K1000 for 1TB disks

I don’t think there’s anything you can do to make it work. Have IBM service come on site and fix it, probably by replacing both CPUs or the planar.

It is possible that the issue is not with the second CPU, but instead with the planar. But it’s impossible to figure that out without just swapping parts.

Yeah know that thou, we ordered second CPU from IBM by part number. They sent us this one. It has same performance 2.0 Ghz quad core, same amount of cache but in BIOS only diference is ID first one is 676 and second 67A. A guy who works for IBM here in Croatia told us that second CPU doesn’t work on same voltage, it’s a bit higher. Lukas do you think there’s any way to make this work. Oh yeah and that same guy from IBM told us that the next BIOS update will fix something and make it work. So today we flashed BIOS to newest version 1.13 and still doesn’t work. BIOS reads 2 CPUs but can’t boot win 2008.
